Match Report

Girvan’s promotion hopes took a knock at windswept Hamilton Park where they fell to a surprising defeat to Glencairn.

It was all Girvan early on and they could have taken the lead in the ninth minute but Jack McDowall’s shot across the face of the goal drifted wide of the far post. Six minutes later Scott Dinwoodie had a shot from twenty five yards saved by the keeper.

Glencairn came more into the match and went ahead in the twenty fifth minute, the Girvan defence failed to clear the ball and Hall netted. Five minutes later Glencairn had another chance but a ball across the face of the goal found no takers. The lead was doubled in the thirty seventh minute Scott Johnstone did well to save but the ball fell to McNab who shot into the empty goal.

On the hour mark Robert Paterson broke clear for Girvan but his shot was cleared. With eighteen minutes left the points were secured another mix up in the defence allowed McKay to shoot into the net. Five minutes from time Glencairn were awarded a penalty after a tackle by John Frame that saw the defender ordered off Fraser took the kick but shot high over the bar.
